Indie Award 2009 Winner announced

Fiction - Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey.

On Monday 28th September Craig Silvey was announced the winner of the 2009 Indie Award. Craig was presented with a cheque for $15,000 at a ceremony at Shearers bookshop, Norton St Leichhardt.

The winner of this award is chosen by the Independent Bookshops of Australia, who also sponsor the winners prize. MacLean's are very proud to be a part of this award.

Surf Ache is the first book from local author Gerry Bobsien. Gerry has worked as a journalist, media advisor, artist and curator and is currently director of the Lock Up in Newcastle.Surf Ache is about a teenage girl who has just moved to Newcastle with her family from Melbourne, and is trying to find her place in this new town. This book really hits mark and with many local landmarks including the beaches, and Newcastle High school as the setting, teenage girls should find this book very enjoyable.

But not many people know the real story behind Ray's rise to stardom, his improvished childhood was as far away from Holywood and bright lights as possible to imagine.

This is your chance to listen to Ray tell his inspiring story. This is a man who has interviewed everyone from Lauren Bacall, Jennifer Lopez, Robert Redford, Elton John to train robber Ronnie Biggs and even Don Bradman. This is Rays turn to tell his own story.
