"What binds us pushes time away." So wrote David Oppenheim, scholar, collaborator and then critic of Sigmund Freud, victim of the Nazis, and grandfather of philosopher Peter Singer. Fifty years after Oppenheim's death, Singer found a wealth of written materials, including personal letters, which provided a vivid picture of the man Singer never met.
