Description

Science of Climate is a flexible middle and high school earth science module, supported by the National Science Foundation, and usable as stand-alone curriculum or as a complement to existing climate and environmental science modules. It consists of a set of hands-on experiments, math applications, reading assignments, and review guides, scaffolded through individual worksheets. Students first establish the reality of global warming, then explore the nature of visible light and infrared radiation, the greenhouse effect, greenhouse gases and the role played by man in increasing their concentration in the atmosphere. They explore the issue of natural vs. anthropogenic climate change, as well as the impacts of global warming, and possible solutions, technical and political. Along the way, students learn and discuss such issues as climate justice, desertification, water wars and geopolitical implications of climate change, climate refugees and international law, as well as climate change denialism and environmental stewardship.
